Bakayan or Mahanimba is a deciduous tree native to southern Asia and is found throughout India. It can be easily seen in parks and along roadsides. It is known as Mahanimba in Sanskrit and used for treating various diseases. This tree has antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, cardio-protective, analgesic, anticancer, antiulcer, antipyretic, anti-plasmodial activities.

Here are few remedies that can be done at home using Mahanimba (Melia azedarach)
To cure various ailments such as piles, mouth ulcer, skin problems, dandruff, gout, inflammation etc .
Piles, bawaseer
Collect dry seeds of Mahanimba (Melia azedarach) and grind to make powder. Take this powder (1 teaspoon) twice a day with water. This powder gives relief in both types of piles (bleeding and non-bleeding). Take for few days.
Or Extract leaves juice (5 ml) and drink thrice a day.Mouth ulcer, gum problem, bad breath
Take bark of Mahanimba (Melia azedarach) and boil in water. Add alum and gargle with this to cure mouth ulcers.
Or boil leaves in water and use this as mouth wash. This is very helpful in gingivitis.Leucorrhoea Shwet pradar, heavy periods
Prepare powder by mixing Bakayan seed powder, amla powder and mulethi powder in equal amount. Take this powder (1 gm) twice a day with water.Skin diseases, blood purification

Apply its leaves juice in hair roots.Sciatica
Take roots bark (10 gm) and Nirgundi leaves (5-7) in water (400 ml) and prepare decoction till water reduces to one fourth. Filter and drink twice a day.Eczema, ring worms, itching on skin, burns
Extract Fresh leaves juice and apply on affected areas. Do for few days.Gout, arthritis
Boil leaves of Bakayan and apply on affected joints to get relief from pain.

For chronic fever, take bark (5 gm), tulsi leaves (7) and boil in water (200 ml) till water reduces to one fourth. Filter and drink twice a day.
Or Extract its leaves juice and take 5 ml twice a day for a week.

Bakayan dosage and how to use, precautions
Image may be NSFW.Bakayan tree leaves, bark, root and seeds are used for medicinal purpose. The recommended safe dosage of its bark is 5-10 gm, leaves and root in form of decoction is 50-100 ml. For its seeds safe dose is 3-5 gm in powder form. Please note it seeds must be taken in recommended dose only as large amount can be toxic and symptom of poisoning (loss of appetite, vomiting, constipation or diarrhoea, bloody faeces, stomach pain) appear few hours after intake.
