The disease Kaphaja Ashmari mentioned in Ayurvedic texts may be correlated to phosphate calculus in modern medical science. Ashmari can be described as condition of Urolithiasis. Urolithiasis (from Greek oûron, urine and lithos, stone) is the condition where urinary stones are formed or located anywhere in the urinary system.

In a clinical research, Varunadi kwath with Yava Kshara treatment was given to patients suffering from urolithiasis. In treated group, 66.66% of the patients recorded a complete cure, 13.33% were markedly improved and 20% were improved.

Effect of Varunadi kwath

The study also shows treated group also get significant relief in pain, burning urination, painful urination, pyuria (pus in urine) and haematuria (blood in urine). The treatment also resulted in decreased pus cells, R.B.C, W.B.C and urine pH.
Varunadi kwath  has demulcent, stomachic, laxative, diuretic, antipyretic, tonic, immunomodulatory, astringent, cardio tonic, wound healer, anthelmintic, expectorant ,anti-inflammatory and anti-urolithiatic properties.

  • Varun Crataeva nurvala Bark
  • Pashanbheda Bergenia ligulata Rhizome
  • Sunthi Zingiber officinale Rhizome
  • Gokshura Tribulus terrestris Fruit

  • Flushes out small stones from the kidney & urinary tract
  • Gives relief in associated symptoms such as pain, pus, RBCs in urine
  • Also useful in
    Helminthiasis, anaemia, scabies, ophthalmia and general weakness, digestive, carminative, aromatic and used widely for indigestion, malaria. It is said to be used for morning sickness, nausea, rheumatism, sore throat and vomiting.

Dosage of Varunadi kwath

40 ml, after meals twice a day for three months or as directed by physician.
