The bark of Arjun tree is used in Ayurveda to treat heart diseases. The botanical name of this tree is Terminalia Arjuna. It is large, evergreen tree native to India and distributed throughout country from sub-Himalayan tracts to the Deccan regions. In Ayurveda, the use of its bark is recommended for treating angina, hypertension and heart failure.
Arjun tree bark has strong antioxidant, antifibrotic, hypolipidemic and anti-hypertensive property.
The bark of Arjun tree can be taken with water in form of powder or as Arjun Kshir pak. In Sanskrit, milk is called Kshir. So this preparation of herb boiling in milk is known as ksheer pak.
For preparing Arjun Kshir pak, take powder of Arjub bark (5-10 gm), milk (1 cup) and water (3 cup). Add all three ingredients and bring this to boil. This should be cooked at low flame till volume reduces to one cp. This should be filtered and taken empty stomach in the morning.
This preparation is cardiac tonic, strong anti-oxidant, gives strength to heart and useful in various cardiac diseases. It is very beneficial for person suffering from weakness of heart, angina, cholesterol and elevated blood pressure.
