Hair loss or thinning of hairs is a very common health problem. There can be various reasons for losing hairs prematurely and one of the very common reason is low haemoglobin level or anaemia.

Anaemia and hair fall are directly related to each other. You may have noticed many women complain about excessive hair fall after childbirth and during breastfeeding. The main reason for this problem is iron deficiency due to increased demand in body. Since anaemia is common in females due to loss of blood in menstruation and so is hair fall. The other reasons for iron loss from body are blood loss due to any reason, surgery, blood donation, genitourinary tract loss etc.

Anaemia can cause alopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia, telogen ef?uvium, and diffuse hair thinning. If you are getting any treatment for curing hair loss then make sure you first treat iron deficiency as that not only improves the effectiveness of treatment but also cures the underlying cause of problem.

For treating anaemia, iron supplementation can be taken. Iron deficiency can be managed by including dark green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, bean products, raisins,  iron fortified cereals (vegetarian sources) and meat (non-veg sources) in diet.
