Durvadi Kera Thailam

Durvadi Thailam is herbal Ayurvedic medicated oil prepared from Durva and base oil. Base oil can be sesame or coconut oil. When this oil is prepared in coconut oil or Kera thailam, it is known Durvadi kerathailam. Durvadi Taila.

Overview

It is mentioned in Chakradatta and Bhaishajya Ratnavali in Vrana shotha Roga Adhikara for the treatment of Vrana. Wound is known as Vrana in ayurveda. It includes abrasion (wearing away of the upper layer of skin as a result of applied friction force), haematoma (localized swelling filled with blood caused by a break in the wall of a blood vessel, blood clots and remains inside muscle/organ), bruise injury (discoloration and tenderness of the skin due to the leakage of blood from an injured blood vessel), contusion, fissure in ano, stab wounds, incised wounds, laceration (torn wound), abscess, cyst etc.

Durva or doob grass is main ingredient of this oil. Durvadi taila has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties due to which effectively helps in wound healing.

How to use Durvadi Thailam

Durvadi taila is for external use only. It can be applied on scalp for treating scalp infections and on wounds. 5-10 ml of oil should be applied and massaged on scalp. For good results, it should be applied at night and washed off next morning. In case of cuts, wounds and similar condition, Durvadi oil should be applied on affected body part and kept at least for one hour.
